Oregon City Woman’s Club awards two scholarships to Oregon City High School seniors

Graduation is right around the corner and high school seniors are looking toward the future.

For two Oregon City High School seniors, this means continuing their educational journeys to college — with help from the Oregon City Woman’s Club.

OCHS seniors Delaney McFarland and Kaity Stangeland were awarded $2,000 General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Oregon City scholarships.

“The GFWC Oregon City Woman’s Club is dedicated to improving and enhancing the lives of others in the community,” said Heather Chaney and Karmin Tomlinson, co-chairs of the club’s scholarship program, in a press release. “Congratulations to Delaney McFarland and Kaity Stangeland on receiving the 2024 scholarships.”

McFarland is attending Pacific Lutheran University and plans to major in English and political science. At OCHS, she was active in theater, speech and debate, soccer, international seminar and the National Honor Society.

“Her career goal is to be either an English or government teacher who inspires the next generation and gives them tools to create a better future,” the press release said.

Stangeland is going to participate in the dual partnership program through Oregon State University that allows enrollment at both OSU and Clackamas Community College. Stageland worked as a camp counselor for Portland Parks and Recreation and on the Portland Spirit as a photographer, busser and cast member for the Cinnamon Bear Cruise. At OCHS, she is involved in theater and the Honors Master Choir and Sound Check choirs.

“Her career goal is being a criminologist, to find the causes of violent behaviors and take steps toward preventive strategies to create a safer world for everyone,” the press release said.
